This list of the world's largest software companies is designed to provide helpful information to software buyers, software vendors, students
and scientists as well as people seeking employment in the software industry.
The companies are ranked according to US-dollar revenues coming from standard 'prepackaged' software sales. Revenues from
subscription and support activities (also called 'maintenance') are included. Revenues from service activities such as consultancy,
installation, offshore and custom software development and system integration activities are excluded to maintain a 'pure' software orië
nted focus. Service companies such as Cap Gemini, Satyam, IBM Global Services, EDS and many others are not software companies according to this
methodology.
The data for the list is primarily gathered from the annual reports of the researched firms, and where necessary additional information is
gathered from the companies' investor relations department, the corporate website, the library of the SEC (www.sec.gov) and/or independent
market research agencies. Although we attempt to present all the gathered data in a uniform way, the differences in accounting policies among
companies are likely to provide some distortion in the ranking. Errors are bound to exist and should be brought to our attention to keep the
list reliable and valuable for all who wish to use it.
It is our intention to make and publish a new Software Top 100-list in July or August of every year, after most companies have posted their
annual reports. The list is freely available at this website. We welcome any comments and information that you want to send us. You can find the
necessary contact information on the contact page.
